TennisSection previews the 2021 Vienna Open as Alexander Zverev takes on Alex de Minaur in the Round of 16 on Thursday, October 28th, 2021.
Will Alex de Minaur get a big win under his belt as he aims to get far in Vienna and get some more momentum as he meets a top 1 player? Will Alexander Zverev get another good win under his belt as he aims to get some momentum going before the ATP Finals? Both players are great returners and movers around the court, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Vienna Open. Who will it be?
Alex de Minaur put on a solid performance in the Round of 32 against the experienced Kevin Anderson, beating him in straight sets 6-3/7-6. Alex is a great mover in indoor hard court conditions, and he just seems to be everywhere on the court. This allows him to really hurt opponents who are not the best on the return game. However, Alex also has the issue of giving way too much early in matches and this drains his stamina at times. Now that he meets Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur will have to come out here at the 2021 Vienna Open and make sure he maintains a strong level for a very long time.
Alexander Zverev cruised through his opening match here, coming through with a straight sets win against Filip Krajinovic, winning 6-2/7-5. Alexander Zverev has been in great form over the last few months and he will be very happy to be back in indoor hard court conditions where he has had a lot of success in his career. Alexander gets the most out of his serve in these conditions I think, and he will want to ensure it is firing at its best against the amazing mover in Alex de Minaur here at the 2021 Vienna Open.
Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur have met 5 times before, with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 4-1. They last met in 2020 at the ATP Cup where Alex won. However, since then, Alexander has become a harder beat to beat. Alexander has finally fixed his issue on his serve a fair few months ago, and the fact that we are in indoor hard court conditions will give him even more cheap points from it. De Minaur is a great player, but he does not have one single aspect of his game which can carry him. Alexander has many on the other hand, and this will get him into the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Vienna Open.
