TennisSection previews the 2021 St Petersburg Open as Alexander Bublik takes on Jan-Lennard Struff in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021.
Will Alexander Bublik get the win? Will Jan-Lennard Struff pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have two players with very high peak levels coming to a clash. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 St Petersburg Open?
Alexander Bublik got a solid win to set up this tough meeting with Jan-Lennard Struff. While he is the favorite, Bublik has been quite in the last few months, not being able to win many matches and crashing out early to lower ranked players. Struff is a guy who can beat a lot of top guys on his day, including Bublik. St Petersburg is playing quick, so Bubik will be liking those conditions, he has a game that can play on all surfaces, but he’s always been naturally inclined to play great on quicker courts, and this is just that. I think Bublik will no doubt experience troubles in this match, but ultimately, I think he will clinch it out and book a place in the Round of 16 at the 2021 St Petersburg Open.
Jan-Lennard Struff got a very solid win against Duckworth, and considering Duckworth has been in pretty good form lately, it was a good win to wrap up in straight sets. He has an even tougher match coming up against Alexander Bublik, a player who is very unpredictable, but on his day is almost unbeatable. Struff has a great chance to take him out, he just has to make sure he returns aggressively. Struff already has a great serve, but so does Bublik, so if he can create some doubt on Bublik’s service games, I like his chances to make inroads and get ahead quickly. Let’s see if he can do that and challenge Bublik as they fight to move onto the next round at the 2021 St Petersburg Open.
Alexander Bublik vs Jan-Lennard Struff have met once before, with Jan-Lennard Struff leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came 3 years ago on the clay, so it’s hardly relevant, but it does show that Struff will have a general idea mapped out of how to face Bublik. Struff is better on slower surfaces than Bublik, so Bublik will have to try and take the longer rallies out of the equation, focusing on serving big and hitting big off the ground. If he can do that consistently, just being aggressive but making sure he doesn’t go too overboard to the point where he’s missing all the time, then I like his chances to clinch this one out and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 St Petersburg Open.
