TennisSection previews the 2021 Kremlin Cup as Ilya Ivashka takes on Evgeny Donskoy in the Round of 32 on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021.
Will Ilya Ivashka move on? Will Evgeny Donskoy pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a very in-form player as of late kicking off his campaign. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Kremlin Cup?
Ilya Ivashka is looking great here to take out Evgeny Donskoy, having been playing at a great level of tennis as of late. Ivashka is a very aggressive player, hitting very hard and having a very versatile game. He shouldn’t have any trouble here, taking on an older player on the ATP Tour, who doesn’t have nearly as high of a ranking as Ivahska, also outclassing him in terms of level on the tennis court. He won’t have to push too hard to get the win, simply having to focus on playing his normal game, which is going for a big first shot and trying to set up the rally to go for winners and aggressive plays, let’s see if he can show a good level and prove that he has what it takes to go all the way here at the 2021 Kremlin Cup.
Evgeny Donskoy has been going from tournament to tournament, playing in the qualifying stages and losing often. There isn’t too much he can do, as he’s getting older and players are getting better and faster. He has yet another really tough one here in Ilya Ivashka. While Ivashka isn’t by any means a “young” tennis player, he still is ranked much higher for a reason. I don’t expect too much from him, but if he does want a chance at winning, he will have to bring something new to the court, hoping to be able to throw Ivashka off with lots of slices and heavy hitting to not allow him to play his aggressive game as he hopes to fight for a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Kremlin Cup.
Ilya Ivashka and Evgeny Donskoy have met once before, with Ilya Ivashka leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came in India in a small tournament, with Ivashka winning easily. If Ivashka could beat him that easily before he was playing nearly as well as he is nowadays, then I don’t have much hope for Donskoy. Ivashka has a shot to go all the way here, he’s already won a title this year, and this hard court is quick, Ivashka’s game is great for a court like this, as he loves to hit the crap out of the ball and take it early on occasion as well. He has a great game, let’s see if he can use it to kick off his campaign here with a boom at the 2021 Kremlin Cup and progress to the Round of 16.
