TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Bianca Andreescu takes on Greet Minnen in the Round of 32 on Saturday, September 4th, 2021.
Will Bianca Andreescu go through? Will Greet Minnen pull off the upset? This match will be an interesting one, where we have the 2019 champion here in the third round, let’s see if she has the level to do it again. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 US Open?
Bianca Andreescu has been playing some pretty solid tennis. She didn’t compete in New York to defend her title last year, but she is back this year and playing pretty well. She has a fantastic opportunity to move through to the Round of 16, with a lower seed who was not expected to make it through this far in Greet Minnen. For Andreescu, she will just have to stay consistent, and quite literally just focus on not making unforced errors. While it is a rather simple game plan, that’s what it should be, she’s already quite good at doing that, and finishing the point when the opportunity presents itself, so I feel quite confident that she’ll move on here at the 2021 US Open.
Greet Minnen got through to the third round with not too bad of a draw, although still rather lucky to get into the third round and in the position to take on Bianca Andreescu for a spot in the fourth round at the 2021 US Open. She has a very hard one ahead of her to deal with Andreescu, who is definitely playing at a higher level than her and has the experience in New York to go with it. Minnen will have to play some power tennis, and focus on hitting really hard and going for winners as much as possible. I think she will have to focus on returning quite aggressively as well, seeing as Andreescu doesn’t have that good of a service, let’s see if she can do those things and be competitive for a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2021 US Open.
Bianca Andreescu and Greet Minnen have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s not too diverse of a matchup, with both players playing a relatively similar game. I just feel like Andreescu does it much better, which is evident due to results, she’s definitely the very heavy favorite to take this match and progress to the next round once again at the 2021 US Open. This is a great chance to show where her level is at and whether or not she has what it takes to do it again, I think she has a shot, she’s definitely not on the lower end of the remaining field of potential winners, but she isn’t the favorite despite winning it the last time she played it. Despite all of that though, she should get a pretty easy and routine win here to progress and continue here campaign here at the 2021 US Open.
