TennisSection previews the 2021 Cincinnati Open as Matteo Berrettini (5) meets Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the Second Round on Tuesday August 17th, 2021.
Matteo Berrettini makes his return to the ATP Tour here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open and will face the unseeded Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas for a spot in the Round of 16. The fifth seeded Italian has not played since his magical run to the Wimbledon Final and will be well-rested and rearing to go. He will be seeking a strong result here in Cincinnati as he gears up for the US Open. Berrettini opens this match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas as the big favorite to advance.
Matteo Berrettini is the fifth seed here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open and is currently ranked at a career-high #8 on the ATP Tour. The Italian has been in fantastic form this year, winning the Queen’s Open and being the Runner-Up in Madrid and Wimbledon. His huge serve and punishing forehand are his major weapons and those will be very effective here on the hard courts. Some rust is to be expected after a few weeks off, but he is considered the big favorite here against the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas and will be seeking a deep run here.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas is ranked #49 in the ATP world rankings and is unseeded here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. The veteran Spaniard has been in solid but unspectacular form so far this year, but is primarily known as a clay court player. He won his only title of the year in Estoril and will have been hoping for some more consistent results throughot the year. However, he stunned the heavily favored Taylor Fritz in the First Round, setting up this clash with the world number 8 Matteo Berrettini. He displayed tremendous resilience throughout the 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win and while he is the big underdog here against the Italian he should not be completely counted out.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and I am expecting a dominant win for Matteo Berrettini. To put it simply, he is the much better player here and while he may start a bit slowly I expect him to figure it out quickly, and be able to control the tempo of the match from the baseline. Albert Ramos-Vinolas is a very solid player, but he does not have the firepower to be able to cause many issues here, and will be outclassed here. Matteo Berrettini will win here, advancing to the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
