TennisSection previews the 2021 Washington Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Emil Ruusuvuori in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner get back on the right path after a little rough patch with a nice win? Will the young talent in Emil Ruusuvuori take out a top player and show us what he can do? This will be a very entertaining encounter, with two next gen players going head to head. Will Sinner cruise through, or can Ruusuvuori trouble his superior peer and try to fight for a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Washington Open?
Jannik Sinner aims to get back to winning ways with a good win over a fellow youngster. He’s been struggling lately, but maybe with a nice match up like this, he can feel steady and attempt to get back to his top level, where he was troubling players such as Rafael Nadal on clay. His service has been rather inconsistent, and he has a rather good one, he needs to back it up better with his great groundstrokes, and dictate play from the back of the court, pulling out little discrepancies of his game to practice and throw off his opponents during play. Sinner can absolutely start to have a phenomenal career, and it’s not a question of if, but when. Perhaps he’ll start right here at the 2021 Washington Open.
Emil Ruusuvuori is a fellow next gen player on the tour, who managed to get through in 3 sets against a player who is much lower in quality of play than his opponent tomorrow in Jannik Sinner. He will have to put up a better performance to challenge him despite recent failures in Sinners game, it’ll be a tough ask for sure. However, anything is possible and he does have the possibility of pulling it off. Especially if he’s able to serve well, then he’ll be able to carry lots of momentum and trouble Jannik Sinner at the 2021 Washington Open.
Jannik Sinner and Emil Ruusuvuori have met twice before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. They met this year at the 2021 Miami Open, with Sinner winning easily, 6-3 6-2. Sinner was in better form at that point, but he isn’t that much worse, just some minor issues he needs to work out, which I’m sure he has been working on. Emil is in many ways like a worse version of Jannik at this point in his career, so I do think Sinner will finally be able to get a nice win under his belt and get some confidence moving forward this season and at the 2021 Washington Open.
