Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Alexander Zverev vs. Daniel Elahi Galan Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Alexander Zverev takes on Daniel Elahi Galan in the Round of 32 on Monday, July 26th, 2021.

Will Daniel Elahi Galan put on a superb performance and shock us all as he aims to get his biggest career win? Will Alexander Zverev improve on his solid first round win as he aims to make history and claim a medal here in Tokyo? This will be a very interesting match as Galan should not be underestimated. Who will make their way to the Round of 16 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics?

Daniel Elahi Galan put on a very solid performance against Mohamed Safwat, beating him in straight sets 7-5/6-1. Although they are both Challenger Tour players, Galan is much more solid from the baseline and he has been able to go far in ATP 250 tournaments before. Daniel Elahi Galan is someone who is not afraid to play long rallies from the baseline and his favourite surfaces are hard courts. He will aim to make a name for himself here at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and throughout the remainder of the hard court season, but can he raise his level to where it needs to be to beat the in form Alexander Zverev.

Alexander Zverev cruised through his first round match, beating Yen-Hsun Lu easily in straight sets 6-1/6-3. The most important part of Alexander Zverev’s game was completely fine during this match and if he is able to keep that going without any issues, I see no reason why he is unable to go far here at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Zverev has a great forehand and backhand and is able to beat anyone and everyone when he is playing his best tennis, but he sometimes falls short beforehand when he takes opponents like Daniel Elahi Galan too lightly in matches early in tournaments.

Alexander Zverev and Daniel Elahi Galan have never met before, with this being their first ever career meeting. I expect for this to be a somewhat tight match because Daniel Elahi Galan will not be scared to give it his best. However, even at his best he is nowhere near the level of Alexander Zverev. Over the last year Zverev has made leaps and bounds on his game, beating big names consistently and if he is able to not double fault in important moments, he can go far here. I see this being somewhat tight but Alexander Zverev will still come through in straight sets to make his way to the Round of 16 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
