TennisSection previews the 2021 Los Cabos Open as Cameron Norrie (1) meets Taylor Fritz (3) in the Semi-Finals on Friday July 23rd, 2021.
A very close and exciting encounter is expected here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open as Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz do battle for a spot in the Final. Both men have played outstanding tennis here this week and will be eager to the chance to win their first title of the season. Who will get the win and advance to the Final here in Mexico?
Cameron Norrie of Great Britain is the number one seed here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open and is currently ranked a career-high #30 on the ATP Tour. Norrie has quietly been having a fantastic season, reaching three ATP Finals. While he has had a successful season, he is still searching for his elusive first title on Tour, and this is as good a chance as any. He has been outstanding so far here in Mexico, defeating Elias Ymer and Ernesto Escobedo without dropping a set. His upcoming match against Taylor Fritz will be his biggest test yet, but in this form he certainly should be considered the favorite. His unique “scrappy” style make him a very difficult opponent as he rarely gives points away, so it will be interesting to see how Fritz copes with it.
Taylor Fritz is the third seed here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open and is currently ranked #37. The American has been having a solid yet inconsistent season and will be hoping to win his first title of the year here. The draw has opened up nicely for him, and now that many of the top players are in Tokyo, he will be licking his lips at the chance to win here. He was surprisingly pushed to three intense sets by Illya Marchenko in the First Round, before rebounding to comfortably dispatch Steve Johnson in the Quarters. Like his opponent Cameron Norrie, he has been playing well and I think that we are in for a serious battle here. As always he will be relying on his big serve and forehand, and if those things are clicking he will be tough to beat.
This will be the seventh meeting between the two players, and the head to head is tied 3-3. This match really can go either way, with both men very close in the rankings and in good form. After considering everything, I am backing Cameron Norrie to get the win. Taylor Fritz has been playing well, but Norrie has been dominant here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open, and has been having a fantastic year. He is truly breaking out this season, and I think he will do just enough to get the close win here. The American will keep it close with his serve, but ultimately Norrie will get the win and advance to his fourth Final of the year here in Los Cabos.
