TennisSection previews the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Elina Svitolina takes on Laura Siegemund in the Round of 64 on Sunday, July 25th, 2021.
Will Laura Siegemund pull off a stunner to move through? Will Elina Svitolina get an easy win under her belt to kick off her campaign? Friday’s contest will be a good one, to see whether Svitolina will be able to play at the level we know she has to be a medal contender. Who will move on to the Round of 32 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics?
Elina Svitolina is coming into this tournament with less confidence than you would hope, considering has lost a lot of matches this year very early to lower-ranked players. To be honest, I don’t know if she has the level to win even her first-round match, also considering she just got married days ago to Gael Monfils, maybe she’ll be a little distracted from the tennis. However, if she’s able to pull out the tennis she produced to get her ranking, I’m sure she can defeat Siegemund and move on at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Laura Siegemund is coming into this matchup with not very much confidence, considering her results in recent tournaments as well as her opponent’s ranking. She’ll have to hope her opponent is off her game as she has been in recent times, otherwise, she won’t have much of a chance to go through. However, if there were to be a miracle, she would have to play very aggressively, because that would put a lot of pressure on Elina, and if she’s able to play aggressively with a low unforced error count, I’m sure she has a chance to go through.
Elina Svitolina and Laura Siegemund never have played before, with this being their first career meeting. This makes it even harder to determine who will win tomorrow, seeing as Svitolinas recent form has been disappointing, it’s hard to know what to expect. Either way, it should be an interesting contest, because we’ll be able to see if Svitolina can recover from her dip in form and kick off her campaign here at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a win.
