Second seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut will begin his 2021 Gstaad Open campaign against Arthur Rinderknech of France in the Round of 16. RBA has been in solid form recently but has yet to truly break out this season as we are accustomed to. He is one of the main contenders for the title here in Gstaad, will he get the win here as expected or can the Frenchman cause the massive upset?
Roberto Bautista Agut is the second seed here at the 2021 Gstaad Open and is currently ranked #16 on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard has built a reputation of being one of the most consistent players on the Tour, and he always a sure bet for good results. However, he has not been as good as he usually is over the past few seasons, and has seen his ranking slip out of the top 10. He remains a very good player and will have his eyes firmly set on the title here, as he bids to regain his ranking. The Spaniard had a good showing at Wimbledon by reaching the Round of 16, and will be looking to build on that momentum here against Arthur Rinderknech, where he is the massive favorite to advance here.
Arthur Rinderknech is unseeded here at the 2021 Gstaad Open and is ranked #100 on the ATP Tour. The Frenchman is in great form at the moment, having qualified for the main draw at the Swedish Open last week and then making the Quarter-Finals. This has brought him to a career-high ranking, and he will be full of confidence. After defeating Wild Card Dominic Stricker in the First Round he is faced with the unenviable task of facing Roberto Bautista Agut in the Round of 16. The Spaniard is one of the best and most consistent players on the tour and very rarely has bad performances. It is usually necessary to hit through RBA, something that Rinderknech is not equipped to to.
This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour and it is a relatively easy one to predict. Quite simply, the Spaniard is a much better player than Arthur Rinderknech and it is very unlikely that the Frenchman will be able to gain much traction in this match. Roberto Bautista Agut is ultra consistent and is one of the most intelligent players on the tour, and the only way to defeat him is to overpower him, something that Rinderknech will be unable to do. It will be a miracle if anything other than a straight-sets win for RBA is the result here. The Spaniard will win comfortably here, advancing to the Quarter-Finals at the 2021 Gstaad Open.
