Will Jordan Thompson continue his impressive form to make the final? Will Jenson Brooksby pull off a big upset to make the final? It’ll be an interesting contest between the favorite and the crowd favorite. Who will move on to the final at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open?
Jordan Thompson is the favorite coming into the second semifinal, with better numbers and better play overall throughout the tournament, he should be liking his chances to go through. His opponent is quite a surprise, despite his low ranking, he was able to come through with a relatively easy draw compared to others. Neither of their opponents in the quarterfinal put up their best display of tennis, however, Brooksbys opponent served at an extremely low percentage, giving him a pretty easy match. Because of this, it’s kind of difficult to analyze form at the moment, however, I think ultimately Thompson’s experience and his consistency on serve will be enough for him.
Jenson Brooksby is coming into this match on a relatively lucky path, having played no seeded players yet. His opponent displayed very low numbers on serve, getting Jenson the swift win to set up this contest vs Jordan. If he wants to pull off the upset to reach the final, he will need to be a little more consistent on serve, he’s giving some of his opponents too many break point opportunities, and I think Thompson will jump on all of those if he sees them. As it’s a grass court, he’ll need to try and really take the ball early and get him off of his rhythm, as playing normally probably will not do the job for him.
Jordan Thompson and Jenson Brooksby have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. They don’t have too different of playstyles, but on a grass court, they’ll both be looking to focus on holding serve throughout the match unless they see any opportunity on any point, in which I think both players will need to focus on being very aggressive when those times do come up. I don’t think the match will be too straightforward either way, but the conditions and current levels of play paint Thompson as a relatively clear favorite to win this match and move on to the final at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open.
