Will Benoit Paire get a very big win under his belt in terms of quality of opponent as he has played poorly all throughout 2021? Will Federico Delbonis continue to improve and show us his great clay court game? Both players are very experienced, but this match will depend all on how Benoit comes out to play. Who will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Hamburg Open?
Federico Delbonis put on a solid display against the always tough Spaniard, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, in the Second Round, beating him in straight sets 6-3/7-6. Federico was cruising through the first set, but in the second he was 3-0 and 30-40 down on his own serve, close to being a double break down. However, Delbonis was able to use his strong clay court game, as well as his lefty serve and forehand to bring some new tricks out and hold his serve and get the momentum going again. Federico is underrated in my opinion, and he will know that if he beats Benoit Paire, he will have a good chance at making the Final here at the 2021 Hamburg Open.
Benoit Paire came through a very tight 2 set match against the qualifier, Juan Pablo Varillas, in the Second Round, beating the youngster 7-5/7-6. Benoit Paire has really not had too much competition this week, winning his first match due to Ricardas Berankis retiring at 6-6 in the first set, and then meeting a qualifier who is really not known and mainly focuses on ITF and Challenger Tour tournaments. Benoit Paire has been able to double his win count for this year, going from 2 wins and 17 losses to 4 wins and 17 losses. However, he will have to bring out his best if he is to beat the very solid clay-courter which is Federico Delbonis.
Benoit Paire and Federico Delbonis have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. If this was a few years ago, I would have swung the way of Benoit Paire. However, in 2021, Benoit has lost 17 matches and only won 4! Benoit does not have the heart for the game anymore it seems, and when things aren’t going his way on the court he does not care to fight back. On the other hand, Federico Delbonis will fight for every ball, loves these clay conditions, and is a lefty so if always tricky to play against. I might expect a tight match just because you never know with Benoit. However, Federico Delbonis will get a good win under his belt and make his way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Hamburg Open.
