Wimbledon Championships 2021: Novak Djokovic vs. Marton Fucsovics Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Novak Djokovic (1) meets Marton Fucsovics in the Quarter-Finals on Wednesday July 7th, 2021.

Top seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic will face useeded Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in the Quarter-Finals here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The world number one is a man on a mission as he seeks to equal the career Grand-Slam titles record with a sixth Wimbledon crown. Next up in his path is the unseeded Marton Fucsovics, who is seemingly in giant-killing mood here at the All-England Club. Does he have what it takes to do the impossible and stop Djokovic here? Or will the legend power on in his quest for the record?

World number one Novak Djokovic needs no introduction, and is one of the greatest players of all time. Fresh off his 2021 French Open title, he enters Wimbledon within touching distance of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s record, which stands at 20 Grand Slam singles titles. He is the massive favorite to win it all here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and has lived up to that tag with a number of typically dominant performances. Djokovic demolished Cristian Garin 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16, and seems fully locked in and focused here. Next up for the Serbian star is the unseeded Hungarian Fucsovics, making his Grand Slam Quarter-Final debut. While Djokovic is the huge favorite here, Fucsovics has a big game and is playing without pressure, so he will be a dangerous opponent.

Marton Fucsovics is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and is ranked #48 on the ATP Tour. The Hungarian has been in fine form here at Wimbledon, causing three major upsets over Jannik Sinner, Diego Schwartzman and most recently Andrey Rublev in the Round of 16. Against Rublev he showed remarkable grit and determination to fight back from two sets to one down, and claimed the biggest win of his career. While he is the major underdog here against Novak Djokovic, he does have a big game, and his style seems to suit this surface perfectly. Not many will expect him to cause the world number one many issues, but in this type of form anything is certainly possible. His serve alone is a massive weapon and his groundstrokes and transition game will surely be a test for the Serbian.

This will be the third meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic leading the head to head series 2-0. While Marton Fucsovics has never defeated the world number one, he clearly does cause him some problems as he has taken a set in each of their meetings back in 2018 and 2019. While the Hungarian has truly been outstanding here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, his run will end here. Novak Djokovic is simply a different beast when it comes to Grand Slams, and it is extremely unlikely that he will lose here in the Quarter-Finals. His killer instinct and experience are second to none when it comes to these situations, and he should dominate this match from start to finish. Fucsovics can possibly win a set, but I would certainly not bet on it as the most likely scenario is a straight-sets win for Novak Djokovic, who will advance to the Semis here at Wimbledon.
