TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Karolina Muchova (19) meets Angelique Kerber (25) in the Quarter-Finals on Tuesday, July 6th 2021.
Will Karolina Muchova continue her strong run here in London as she aims to rise up the rankings by beating a former Grand Slam Champion and making her way to the Semi-finals? Will Angelique Kerber back up that superb performance that she put on in the Round of 16 against the in form Coco Gauff? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Angelique Kerber put on a solid display in the Round of 16, beating the up and coming Coco Gauff in straight sets 6-4/6-4. Angelique has really found her form here, showing us near the level of tennis which saw her win Wimbledon in the past. Angelique, when in form, is one of the best grass court players out there and the fact that she is a lefty helps her even more as this is not seen much in the womens game. Angelique Kerber will want to continue performing at this high level because she knows she will have a strong chance to win the title if she does, but she needs to stop the younger Karolina Muchova from beating her.
Karolina Muchova came through a very tight Round of 16 match against the in form Paula Badosa, beating the Spaniard in straight sets 7-6/6-4. Paula Badosa was playing better for the majority of that first set, but the fact that she lost it at 8-6 in the tiebreak did not help her mental game and she was then not able to give herself enough mental energy to perform the comeback. Karolina Muchova will be very happy with that win and she will definitely know she can beat anyone in the tournament if she is at her best, but she now meets a very in form Angelique Kerber here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Angelique Kerber and Karolina Muchova have met 2 times before, with Angelique Kerber leading the head to head 2-0. They last met in 2019 both times and Kerber won one in 3 sets and one in 2. Although Karolina Muchova is the higher ranked player now, on grass Angelique Kerber is the much tougher player. Angelique will know she still has it after beating Coco Gauff and she will want to continue giving it her all to ensure she makes it one step closer to the title. It will be a tight match as we are further in the business end of the tournament, but Angelique Kerber will make her way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
