TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Alja Tomljanovic meets Emma Raducanu in the Round of 16 on Monday, July 5th 2021.
Will the local British wildcard, Emma Raducanu, continue to make a name for herself as she goes into the second week of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships when no one expected her to? Will Alja Tomljanovi be able to get herself far by using her experience against a youngster? Both players will be giving it their absolute best in this match, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-finals here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Emma Raducanu has been very good all tournament, chipping away at her opponents and now she has made a name for herself as she has made it into the second week here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as a wildcard. Emma beat Sorana Cirstea in straight sets 6-3/7-5 in the Round of 32 and she showed how much that win meant to her after the match. Emma will be riding that wave until the next match but she also needs to understand that she needs to just act as if it is business as usual and not get involved in the hype because more often than not if she does it will backfire. Raducanu meets Alja Tomljanovic who although not one of the toughest opponents you could meet in a Round of 16, she is definitely experienced and can use that to her advantage.
Alja Tomljanovic came through a very tough match against the in form Jelena Ostapenko, beating her in 3 sets 4-6/6-4/6-2. Jelena Ostapenko had been on a roll on grass as of recent, winning in Eastbourne and performing well here in Wimbledon. However, Alja did not let that get into her head and she just maintained her composure during the tight moments in the match to get the comeback win done. Alja will also be happy that her boyfriend, Matteo Berrettini, made the Round of 16 here as well and she will want to put on a very solid performance against Emma Raducanu to ensure she can at least match his run if he is able to win.
Alja Tomljanovic and Emma Raducanu have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Although Emma Raducanu has been able to make it so far as a wildcard and impressing the British crowd here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, she has not had the toughest competition out there. Alja, on the other hand, was able to beat a very in form Jelena Ostapenko which not many expected. It might still be a tight match as the British crowd will give Raducanu a lot of energy, but Alja should still come out on top and make her way to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
