TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Aliaksandra Sasnovich takes on Nao Hibino in the Round of 64 on Thursday, July 1st 2021.
Will Aliaksandra Sasnovich carry her lucky break over into the next round? Will Nao Hibino make a name for herself and go through? In this match, there is absolutely no clear winner, and it really could go either way. Who will go on to the Round of 32 at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships?
Aliaksandra came through to the Round of 64 with a very lucky break against Serena Williams. Williams injured herself after slipping on the dangerous court this year. It was only 3-3 in the first set, so it will be very hard to determine how she’s playing at Wimbledon this year, and whether or not what happened to her in the first round will affect her mentally or not. I suspect she may be feeling a little undeserving of the “win” she got, but hopefully, it will not affect her, she may be able to take advantage of how fresh she is to get another win under her belt. Although the match was barely 15 minutes long, her 1st serve numbers were only at 56% in, she will need to get a lot better than ½ her first serves in if she wants to progress in this tournament. With how fresh she is, I think if she’s able to look behind what happened in the first round and play a solid level of tennis, she has a good shot of going through past Hibino.
Nao Hibino went the distance in her first round match, taking out Bernarda Pera. Since she had to play a full length match, she must be a little more tired than her opponent. Granted, these are professional athletes and they shouldn’t be too concerned about things like that, however, throughout the three sets, she hit 8 double faults to just 1 ace. Since she won’t be as fresh as her opponent, she will need to be able to figure out what she needs to do to fix these numbers in order to progress to the next round. While her opponent certainly wasn’t Serena Williams, she was still able to win a first round match the normal way, so that should give her some confidence against her opponent. Even still, service stats like the one just mentioned concern me, and if she wants to beat Sasnovich she will need to fix those.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Nao Hibino have met one time before, with Nao Hibino leading the head to head 1-0. Now, their one meeting is practically negligible, as it was 6 years ago at a hard court tournament. This match also went the distance, so there’s no way to see if there’s a match-up either of these players doesn’t like against one another. I do expect Aliaksandra to be able to win, just because of how fresh she is and because of the concerning service stats from Hibino’s match, however, this one is a tough match to predict and it could go either way.
