An interesting match awaits in the First Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as eighth seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut faces John Millman. Both men play a similar style, and are both hardworking baseliners. RBA has dominated the head to head between the two players, can Millman break the streak and register his first victory against his opponent?
Roberto Bautista Agut is the eighth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #10 on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard has built a reputation of being one of the hardest workers on the tour, and is a very consistent performer. While he considers grass his least favorite surface, the Spaniard does have one title on grass and his attitude and powerful flat groundstrokes make him a strong opponent regardless of the surface. RBA also reached the Semis the last time this event was held back in 2019 and will be confident on these familiar courts. He is also very familiar with his First Round opponent John Millman as they have played five times in their career, with RBA winning on each occasion. With that stat in mind, he is considered the massive favorite to advance here.
John Millman is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #43 in the ATP world rankings. The Aussie has a similar reputation as his opponent Roberto Bautista Agut as an extremely hard worker, and is a tricky opponent for the Spaniard to face in the First Round. While he is normally a very consistent performer, he has been having a poor season so far, with a losing record at the moment. He will be hoping that this tournament is the start of improved results, but he is facing an opponent that he has never beaten before, so his chances of advancing are looking rather bleak. Millman struggles on the faster surface, and his elite hard court movement isn’t as effective on this surface. He is a very capable player but lacks the weapons to trouble the Spaniard here.
This will be the sixth meeting between the two players, with Roberto Bautista Agut dominating the head to head 5-0. Despite his grass court form being rather disappointing this year, I expect the trend to continue and RBA should register his sixth consecutive win over his opponent John Millman. The Aussie shouldn’t be totally written off due to his hardworking nature, and he will take heart in the fact that he has always managed to win a set each time they have played. I expect the Spaniard to win this match in three or four relatively comfortable sets, advancing to the Second Round here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
