Kateryna Kozlova made her way to the Round of 16 of both the Nottingam Open and Birmingham Classic in the last 2 weeks, more than most expected, which will give her some confidence coming into the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Kateryna Kozlova is not a very well known player, mainly focusing on challenger tournaments and futures. However, she will be feeling confident in her game and the fact that her opponent in the Round of 128, Victoria Azarenka, might not be at her best here. Can the Ukrainian cause the big upset right from the start?
Victoria Azarenka put on some solid performances at the Homburg Open last week, making her way to the Quarter-finals. However, Victoria retired before her match as she was aiming to ensure she had enough recovery time for Wimbledon. Victoria is no longer a young star and she needs to ensure that her body is ready for tough matches. I think that these few days of rest under her belt will be good for her as she knows that if she is energetic and ready to go, players like Kateryna Kozlova will have a very tough time in beating the former Grand Slam champion.
Victoria Azarenka and Kateryna Kozlova have never met before, with this being their first meeting. Although Kateryna has been playing well over the last 2 weeks on grass, she is nowhere near the level of Victoria Azarenka who is ranked 144 spots higher than her. Kozlova might keep things tight just because Azarenka might not be at her best. However, at the end of the day, I see Victoria Azarenka getting the win under her belt to make her way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
