American Qualifier Marcos Giron has made a surprising run to the 2021 Halle Open Quarter-Finals, playing some excellent tennis along the way. He is up against Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime in the next round, and will be seeking to keep is amazing run going. Can he cause yet another upset here in Halle, and advance to the Semi-Finals?
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked #20th on the ATP Tour and at the tender age of 20 already has an outstanding tennis resume. The young Canadian has long been considered a future superstar of the game, and after reaching 8 ATP Finals he is beginning to live up to those lofty expectations. After a very disappointing clay court season he has found form on grass, reaching the Final last week in Stuttgart, where he lost to Marin Cilic. FAA has now lost every single Final that he has played at this level and will be desperate to claim the title here in Halle. He defeated his childhood idol Roger Federer in the Round of 16, playing some fantastic grass court tennis and dominating with his huge groundstrokes. The Canadian enters this match against Marcos Giron as the massive favorite, and will be expected to advance to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Halle Open.
Marcos Giron is ranked #75 on the ATP Tour, and entered the 2021 Halle Open by coming through the Qualifying Rounds. The American is known for his fighting spirit, and has a solid all-court game, while lacking the major weapons to really challenge the top players. He has been outstanding so far here in Halle, defeating Vasek Pospisil and Jan-Lennard Struff, two matches that he was expected to lose. While Giron enters this match against Felix Auger-Aliassime as the massive underdog, he will definitely give it his all, and the Canadian is prone to mental lapses at times. It will take the match of his life to get the upset here however, especially due to FAA’s good grass court form.
This will be the first meeting between the two players, and it should be fairly straightforward to predict. Felix Auger-Aliassime is in fantastic form at the moment on the grass courts, and will be eager to bounce back from his disappointing loss in the Stuttgart Final. Giron is a fighter and won’t give up easily, but I expect him to have no answer for the Canadian’s massive groundstrokes. Marcos Giron won’t make it easy, but FAA will win this match in straight sets, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Halle Open.
