Marin Cilic showed great composure and form in his Quarter-final match against the top seed, Denis Shapovalov, beating him in straight sets 7-5/7-6. Marin Cilic loves playing in grass court conditions, having won multiple titles as well as reaching the Wimbledon Final a few times. Marin Cilic will be very happy with his performances here at the 2021 Stuttgart Open, but he will know he will face a very tough challenge from Jurij Rodionov who has also played well and is able to move so quickly around the court. Can Marin show some great signs of progress before Wimbledon by making the Final?
Jurij Rodionov had to fight his way back from a set down in in his Quarter-final victory over Alex de Minaur, beating the Australian in 3 sets 3-6/6-3/7-6. Alex de Minaur really should have dominated that match from start to finish, but it is understandable with this only being his second grass match in two years that an upset happened. Alex de Minaur is such a tough player to come up against, because he has so much speed behind his shots and he moves around the court, however, Jurid Rodionov used his momentum from having played more matches to get the win. Now he will have to raise his level even more to meet Marin Cilic who loves to play draining sets of tennis.
Marin Cilic and Jurij Rodionov have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. I am sure that Jurij will enter this match with some confidence, but Marin plays much better on grass courts and he will know that Jurij is not at experienced as he is and doesn’t know how to play against huge servers. Marin will come out here knowing that if he wins he will have a strong chance of winning his first title in over 3 years, and he will give it his all to do so.
