TennisSection previews the 2021 French Open as Coco Gauff (24) meets Barbora Krejcikova in the Quarter-finals on Wednesday, June 9th 2021.
Will Barbora Krejcikova continue causing upsets here in Paris as she is making a name for herself in the singles tour of the WTA Tour? Will Coco Gauff make her way to her first Grand Slam Semi-final at only 17-years-old at Roland Garros? Both players have played some great tennis all tournament here at the 2021 French Open, but only one will make their way to the Semi-finals here in Paris. Who will it be?
Barbora Krejcikova shows some amazing tennis in the Round of 16 against Sloane Stephens, beating the former Grand Slam champion in straight sets 6-2/6-0. After he incredible win, Barbora Krejcikova told the media that 30 minutes before the match began she didn’t even want to go out to play and she didn’t feel at her best, but my goodness was that wrong. Barbora was in control of everything in that match and she did not let go of any points. Barbora is making a name for herself in the singles this year, after having been as high as World No.1 in the doubles circuit. Now, Barbora has a great chance to make her way to the Semi-finals here at the 2021 French Open, but she will have to beat an in form Coco Gauff.
Coco Gauff also cruised through her Round of 16 match here at Roland Garros, beating Ons Jabeur in straight sets 6-3/6-1. Coco Gauff has gone on to say that she is feeling like this is the best tournament she has played as she is playing as professionally as she has yet, not wasting unnecessary time in long and draining matches when she knows she can win them in straight sets. If this is just the start of what we are going to see from the 17-year-old phenom, then I am so excited for the years to come. Coco Gauff has power, accuracy, speed, and the mentality required to become one of the greats, and she will want to get that greatness started here at the 2021 French Open by beating Barbora Krejcikova.
Coco Gauff and Barbora Krejcikova have never met before, with this being their first encounter. Both of them have played some incredible tennis here in Paris, and they are both deserving of a Semi-final spot. However, based on who I have seen to be more consistent throughout the entire tournament, and who I believe has the better game foundation, it is definitely Coco Gauff. It will be a tight match don’t get me wrong, with both players putting it all on the line to make their way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 French Open, but the power, and determination of Coco Gauff will get her into her maiden Grand Slam Semi-final.
