French Open 2021: Alexander Zverev vs. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 French Open as Alexander Zverev (6) meets Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Quarter-Finals on Tuesday June 8th, 2021.

An exciting match is expected in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 French Open as sixth seeded German Alexander Zverev faces Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Quarter-Finals. Both men have been having very strong clay court seasons and have backed it up by reaching the Quarters here at Roland Garros 2021. Who will get the win and advance to the Semis in Paris?

Alexander Zverev is currently ranked #6 in the ATP world rankings and is the sixth seed here at Roland Garros 2021. After an outstanding clay court season he established himself as one of the main contenders for the title here at the French Open, and will be the favorite to advance to the Semis. After struggling in his First match against Oscar Otte he has been dominant, not dropping a set since. He was clinical in his straight-sets demolition of Kei Nishikori, winning 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in a match that many predicted that he would struggle in. Zverev served extremely well during that win, controlling the tempo of the match from the baseline in a very impressive performance. The draw has opened up nicely for him and he enters this match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina as the favorite to advance to the Semis here at the 2021 French Open.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is ranked #46 in the world and is unseeded here at Roland Garros 2021. The Spaniard also had an extremely strong clay court season, reaching the Semi-Finals in Estoril and the Quarters in Monte-Carlo. He has continued that fine momentum into the 2021 French Open, playing some gritty tennis to advance to his first ever Grand-Slam Quarter-Final. Davidovich Fokina is one of the flashiest players on tour, with a very exciting brand of tennis that is pleasing to watch. While he has been impressive here in Paris, he has spent a lot of time on court, so fatigue may certainly be a factor here. He enters this match against Alexander Zverev as the heavy underdog, but his versatile and aggressive game makes him a serious threat here at Roland Garros.

This will be the third meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Zverev leading the head to head series 2-0. They played each other twice last season, with the German winning each one in straight sets. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has improved a lot since then, and has displayed tremendous resilience to reach this stage in the draw here at the 2021 French Open. However, I don’t see him threatening to win this match, despite his fantastic play so far. Alexander Zverev is much more experienced, and has another gear that the Spaniard simply doesn’t. I expect it to be a tough match, but ultimately the German will win in three tight sets, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at Roland Garros 2021.
