TennisSection previews the 2021 Parma Open as Tommy Paul (6) meets Sebastian Korda in the Semi-finals on Friday, May 28th 2021.
Will Sebastian Korda make his second ATP Tour Final of 2021 as he looks to finally lift a trophy and continue making a name for himself? Will Tommy Paul make his first ATP Tour Final of 2021 and give himself a shot at his first career title after strong growth over the last 2 years? Both players have a strong chance at the title here, but they need to get themselves into the Final of the 2021 Parma Open first. Who will win?
Tommy Paul was able to cause the upset in the Quarter-finals, beating the big swinging German, Jan-Lennard Struff, in straight sets 6-2/6-4. Tommy Paul has been strong all tournament, having won all of his matches, except for his one against Jiri Vesely, quite easily. Tommy Paul is strong on clay, having pushed into the later stages of a few tournaments such as the Hamburg Open and nearly gotten the best of the likes of Andrey Rublev on this surface. However, now Tommy meets a very tough up and comer in Sebastian Korda who has been probably the most in form player all week here in Parma, so he needs to be at his best.
Sebastian Korda dominated in his Quarter-final match against Yoshihito Nishioka, beating Nishioka in 2 sets 6-3/6-3. Sebastian Korda has a strong mix of hard court game fundamentals but he is able to use them strongly on clay due to his speed around the court and his power. Korda has a big serve which allows him to get the +1 shot once the ball is returned, and then he can feel less pressure when returning as he is not scared of serving. Sebastian Korda made the Final of the Delray Beach Open earlier this year, and I am sure he will want to make the Final here at the 2021 Parma Open and have a very strong chance to win his maiden ATP Tour title.
Tommy Paul and Sebastian Korda have met 1 time before, with Sebastian Korda leading the head to head 1-0. They met earlier this year at the Delray Beach Open where Sebastian Korda won in 3 sets 4-6/6-3/6-2. This is definitely going to be a tight match between these two strong players this week. Both players know that they will have a strong chance to win the Final here at the 2021 Parma Open if they win it. I think we will see 3 sets in the match, and I think that Sebastian Korda’s big serve will give him a better chance to get on top of the points early and get the win.
