Stefanos Tsitsipas is seeded second here at the 2021 Lyon Open, and is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings. The Greek star has firmly established himself as one of the top players in the world so far this season, winning his first Masters title in Monte-Carlo a few weeks ago. Tsitsipas has been incredibly consistent so far this season, leading the tour in match wins, and boasting a 13-3 record on clay. His big game has translated well to this surface, and he must be considered one of the main contenders for the title here in Lyon. He was dominant in his straight sets win over Tommy Paul in the Round of 16, controlling the match with his huge groundstrokes. Tsitsipas will again be heavily favored to win here over Yoshihito Nishioka, and it will be a huge shock if he were to lose here in the Quarters.
Yoshihito Nishioka is currently ranked #60 in the ATP world rankings, and has built a reputation as a very solid baseline player. After having a very poor clay court season thus far, he entered his First Round match here against Ugo Humbert as the underdog, but was able to claim a three set victory. He then took it one step further and upset fifth seeded Gael Monfils in the Quarter-Finals. While Monfils had been struggling, Nishioka was very impressive in the way that he held his nerve to come away with a very tight victory. While he has played extremely well to get to this stage, he will have to be much better here against the red-hot Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek has been dominating the ATP Tour this season, and Nishioka will have to play the match of his life to make this match even slightly competitive here at the 2021 Lyon Open.
This will be the first meeting between the two players, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. This is a relatively easy match to predict, and Stefanos Tsitsipas will be winning here, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Lyon Open. Simply put, the Greek star is simply on another planet now, and is playing the best tennis of his career. Yoshihito Nishioka is a solid player, but he will not be able to match Tsitsipas’s big game, and his run here in Lyon will come to an end. Expect a comprehensive win for Stefanos Tsitsipas, and he goes in search of yet another ATP title as he prepares for Roland Garros.
