TennisSection previews the 2021 Munich Open as Filip Krajinovic (4) meets Yannick Hanfmann in the Round of 16 on Thursday April 29th, 2021.
This is set to be an interesting match in the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Munich Open. Fourth seeded Filip Krajinovic of Serbia will face unseeded German Yannick Hanfmann in what should be a very tight encounter. Despite there being quite a big gap in their rankings, both men have been in similar form so far this year. Will it be the fourth seed advancing to the Quarter-Finals here in Bavaria? Or can Hanfmann cause what would be considered an upset?
Filip Krajinovic is currently ranked #36 in the ATP world rankings and is Serbia’s #2 player after Novak Djokovic. Much better known for his hard court prowess, he is still a very strong player on this surface and is seeded fourth here at the 2021 Munich Open. The Serb has been having a poor year so far by his standards, but has been impressive since the start of the clay court season. After reaching the Round of 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Quarter-Finals in Serbia he will be confident of doing well here in Bavaria. His heavy groundstrokes and anticipation are very effective on this surface and he enters this match against Yannick Hanfmann as the favorite.
Yannick Hanfmann of Germany is unseeded here at the 2021 Munich Open and is currently ranked #98 in the ATP world rankings. Other than a Quarter-Final appearance at the Sardegna Open he has had a string of poor results so far in 2021 and will be hoping to turn his season around here in Munich. He was impressive in his opening round win over Taro Daniel, winning in three sets in a hard-fought match. However his next match will be much more difficult against the fourth seeded Filip Krajinovic, and he will have to be much improved in order to win here. He has typically struggled on this surface in recent times and enters the match as the underdog.
The two men have never faced each other on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. While there is a vast difference in their rankings, both men have been in similar form this year, and it could be an interesting match. Despite his poor record this year, I expect Filip Krajinovic to win this match. He has started to find his form recently, especially on clay, and is a much more experienced player at this level than his opponent Yannick Hanfmann. The German is a very capable player and has the tools to cause the Serb some bother but he doesn’t quite have the firepower nor the top-level experience to win here. Filip Krajinovic will win and advance to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Munich Open.
