Will Stefanos Tsitsipas win his second title in a row in two weeks on clay as he looks to reach his goals so early in 2021 already? Will Rafael Nadal win his 12th title here at the 2021 Barcelona Open as he continues to improve on the clay this year to get back to his best level? Both players have been great all week at the 2021 Barcelona Open, but only one will come out as the Champion. Who will it be?
Stefanos Tsitsipas did not really have to do much in his Semi-final encounter here at the 2021 Barcelona Open against Jannik Sinner, winning in straight sets 6-3/6-3. Stefanos Tsitsipas was playing his normal game, nothing extravagant, being able to use his serve well, especially his kick serve. However, the real reason why he won the match so easily was because Jannik Sinner just did not come out playing well. The Italian started slowly and he just did not find a rhythm out on the court, and this allowed Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in straight sets and make his way to his second final in two weeks. How will the young gun now fare against the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, on the court named after him?
Rafael Nadal was amazing in his Semi-final encounter against Pablo Carreno Busta, dominating the entire match and winning in straight sets 6-3/6-3. Rafael Nadal is improving with every match he has played here at the 2021 Barcelona Open, and he is very motivated to continue getting minutes in to get his game where it needs to be. Rafael Nadal knows that he is not at his best currently, which is expected as the greats take one or two tournaments of preparation to get themselves going at their age nowadays, but he is definitely getting closer and closer. Rafael Nadal, on Pista Rafa Nadal, will come out very determined to use all of his physical abilities, and mental as well, to dominate the match against Stefanos Tsitsipas on Sunday and show everyone that he is still the best around.
Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas have met 8 times before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 6-2. The last time they met was in that incredible match earlier this year in the Quarter-finals of the Australian Open. Stefanos Tsitsipas came back from 2-0 down in that match to shock everyone. However, you have to remember that Nadal had been suffering with a back problem all of the month of February and had to even go to the hospital for it throughout the tournament. Here, on clay, I see no chance that Rafael Nadal loses. They have met 3 times on clay before, with Nadal having won 2 and lost 1 (in Madrid), but Rafael Nadal always brings out his best when its most needed. They have already played in a Final of the Barcelona Open (2018) and Nadal won easily in straight sets. He will do the same.
