TennisSection previews the 2021 Serbia Open as Novak Djokovic (1) meets Miomir Kecmanovic in the Quarter-Finals on Friday April 23rd, 2021.
Top seeded Novak Djokovic continues on his quest to win a third title here at the 2021 Serbia Open. His opponent in the Quarter-Finals is compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic and it is sure to be an entertaining match for the home crowd. Djokovic was in outstanding form in his Round of 16 win and it looks like it will be an impossible task to stop him from winning the title. Is Kecmanovic up for the challenge and can he cause the huge upset here on home soil?
Novak Djokovic is the current world number one in the ATP world rankings and is considered one of the greatest to have ever played the sport. After losing in the Round of 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week he will be seeking to make amends, and seems extremely hungry for the title here at the 2021 Serbia Open. A two time winner of the event, he started strongly with a straight sets demolition of Soon-Woo Kwon, winning 6-3, 6-1 in a little over an hour. While he is still shaking off a bit of rust, his movement and anticipation are still among the best in the world and he is a very competent clay court player, despite it not being his favorite surface. He enters this match against Miomir Kecmanovic as the overwhelming favorite, and it is hard to imagine a scenario where he suffers two consecutive early-round losses.
Miomir Kecmanovic is currently ranked #47 in the world, but is better than his ranking suggests. He has been in very poor form lately, losing in the First Round in three of his last five tournaments. Despite his recent results, he started relatively strongly here at the 2021 Serbia open, defeating Facundo Bagnis in the First Round before overcoming a tough challenge from Arthur Rinderknech in the Second Round. He is clearly not at his best but will be happy to grinded out two difficult wins, and his confidence will be high. However, he is now facing the best player in the draw by some margin in Novak Djokovic and will have to be at his absolute best in order to get anything out of this match.
Somewhat surprisingly this will be the first time that the two Serbians will be facing each other on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. This is a fairly easy match to call, Novak Djokovic is expected to win this match in straight sets. The world number is yet to fully hit his stride after his return to the ATP Tour, but Miomir Kecmanovic is struggling lately and should not pose much of a challenge. Expect Djokovic to dominate this match from start to finish and will cruise into the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Serbia Open.
