TennisSection previews the 2021 Serbia Open as Filip Krajinovic (5) meets Nikola Milojevic in the Round of 16 on Wednesday April 21st, 2021.
An “All-Serbian” encounter awaits us in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Serbia Open. Fifth seeded Filip Krajinovic will face compatriot Nikola Milojevic for the second time. Krajinovic is the heavy favorite here, will he get the win as expected? Or can Milojevic cause the upset and advance here in Belgrade?
Filip Krajinovic is the number five seed here at the 2021 Serbia Open and is currently ranked #33 in the ATP world rankings. The Serbian #2 has been inconsistent so far this year, with mixed results. He reached the Round of 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, and will be hoping for a deep run here in Belgrade to get his season back on track. Krajinovic was pushed to the limit by Stefano Travaglia in the First Round, eventually winning 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. He served very well throughout this match, other than one small blip when he served for the match in the second set and was broken. While he has not been near his best this year he enters this match as the favorite, and will be looking to use all his experience to get the win here over Nikola Milojevic.
Nikola Milojevic is currently ranked a lowly #134 in the ATP world rankings, a full 100 spots behind his opponent Filip Krajinovic. He entered the 2021 Serbia Open having not won an ATP main draw match in 2021, but looked good in his opening round win. The Serbian defeated the solid Federico Coria 6-4, 6-0, serving extremely well and controlling the match from the baseline. He enters this match as the huge underdog against his countryman Krajinovic and will have to play extremely well to make this competitive here. Two things that he has going for him is that he had a much more assured performance than his opponent in the First Round, and that he won their only previous meeting. While he isn’t heavily favored to win he will have belief that he can.
This is the second time that the two players have faced each other on the ATP Tour, and Nikola Milojevic leads the head to head series 1-0. They played each other at Roland Garros 2020, with Milojevic winning in four close sets. While he won the previous encounter and played well in his opening match, I see him losing this match. Filip Krajinovic is a highly experienced and successful player, and is ranked over 100 spots higher. Milojevic has the quality and the confidence to keep it close, but expect Krajinovic to eventually figure it out, and he will get the win here. Filip Krajinovic will even the head to head series, and advance to the Quarter-Finals here at the 2021 Serbia Open.
