Monte-Carlo Masters 2021: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Andrey Rublev Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters as Stefanos Tsitsipas (4) meets Andrey Rublev (6) in the Final on Sunday April 18th, 2021.

This is certainly not the Final that anyone was expecting, but it is sure to be a fantastic battle none the less. Fourth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece will meet sixth seeded Russian Andrey Rublev in a match that tennis fans will not want to miss. Both players are seeking their first Masters-1000 title, who will come out on top here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters?

Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings, and has firmly established himself as one of the world’s top players. While he is yet to claim a title so far this year, he has been having an outstanding season, with consistent results. The Greek star is no stranger to big finals, having been to two previous Masters-1000 Finals without much success. He has been outstanding so far here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters, and is still yet to lose a set. Tsitsipas has been serving very well thus far, and that coupled with his dominant baseline game makes him an extremely difficult opponent on this surface. While this Final is too close to call, he is considered the slight favorite due to his higher ranking and greater experience at this level.

Andrey Rublev has been one of the most in-form players on the ATP Tour throughout the past two years. After dominating the ATP-500 events for a long time, he is finally making his mark on the bigger tournaments and can claim the biggest title of his life here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters. The world #8 has also been in fantastic form here in Monaco, notably dominating Rafael Nadal in the Quarter-Finals before dispatching Caster Ruud in the Semis to set up this blockbuster clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas. There are not many players who can go toe-to-toe with the Russian from the baseline when he is in form, and that is definitely the case here. He is considered the slight underdog here but in his current form is certainly capable of winning the title.

This will be the seventh career meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with the head to head series tied 3-3. Every single time they have faced each other it has been a huge battle, and we expect nothing different here. The last time they played was earlier this year in Rotterdam, a match that Andrey Rublev won in two close sets. They have faced each other twice on clay, splitting the matches one apiece so there really is nothing to separate them here in Monaco. All things considered, I am going with Andrey Rublev to win the title here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters. Both men are in equally outstanding form and can easily win here, but Tsitsipas has made it a bit of a habit of getting tight in big finals, and I think that will be the difference here. Expect a ferocious battle with loads of high quality tennis, but Andrey Rublev will win and become the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters Champion.
