TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Andrey Rublev (4) meets Marin Cilic in the Fourth Round on Tuesday, March 30th 2021.
Will Marin Cilic show us the tennis which has made him into a Grand Slam Champion here in the Fourth Round of the 2021 Miami Open in hopes of causing the upset? Will Andrey Rublev continue to cruise through his opponents, having only spent just over 2 hours on court in two matches? Both players have been playing some great tennis here at the Miami Open, but only one will make their way through to the Quarter-finals. Who will it be?
Marin Cilic put on a great performance in the Third Round, beating the very in form and up and coming Italian, Lorenzo Musetti, in straight sets 6-3/6-4. Going into that match, we were all unsure of what to expect as Musetti had been in great form, and Cilic had not really played since the Australian Open. However, Marin Cilic was able to show great speed and length on his first and second serve throughout the match, giving him more freedom when he was not serving. Marin is still nowhere near where he used to be 3 years ago on the ATP Tour, but he can definitely hurt some less experienced opponents when he is on top of his game. How will the Croatian fare against the very in form Andrey Rublev here in the Fourth Round of the 2021 Miami Open?
Another week, another Andrey Rublev victory over Marton Fucsovics. Andrey Rublev has beat Marton Fucsovics 3 times in the last month, and he has not lost a set to the Hungarian. It was the same story in the Third Round here at the 2021 Miami Open, winning his match in just over 1 hour 6-2/6-1. Andrey Rublev knows that if he wants to win his first ATP Masters 1000 title, this tournament will definitely be his best shot as the biggest players in the world such as the Big 3 and Dominic Thiem are not playing. However, Rublev is going to have to come through a very experienced and tough opponent in Marin Cilic in the Fourth Round, and he will have to ensure his game is at its best to prevent the upset.
Andrey Rublev and Marin Cilic have met 3 times before on the ATP Tour, with Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 2-1. The only time Marin Cilic beat Rublev was back at the Geneva Open in 2015. However, their last encounter was at the Moscow Open in 2019 where Andrey Rublev won in straight sets 7-5/6-4. They have already met here at the Miami Open as well in 2019, where Rublev won 6-4/6-4. It is great to see Marin Cilic back on the ATP Tour playing some very solid tennis, but unfortunately I don’t see him having the necessary speed in his movement around the court to keep up with Andrey here. I think this will be a repeat of their last two encounters, with Rublev winning in straight sets.
