TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Andrey Rublev (4) meets Tennys Sandgren in the Second Round on Saturday, March 27th 2021.
Will Tennys Sandgren be able to beat one of the most in form players over the last 2 years in Andrey Rublev, shocking us all in the tennis world? Will Andrey Rublev be able to bounce back after a tough loss in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Dubai Open against his fellow Russian Aslan Karatsev? This is definitely going to be a fun match to watch in the Second Round of the Miami Open, but only one will make it to the Third Round. Who will it be?
Tennys Sandgren put on a very solid performance in the first round, beating the always tough to play Pedro Martinez in 2 sets, 6-4/2-0 before Martinez had to retire with an injury. Sandgren has not been on people’s radars lately, but he can definitely ruffle the feathers of some of the best players in the world. Sandgren will be confident after his First Round victory, but he will also have to be able to get himself grounded and realise that he has a very tough challenge ahead in Andrey Rublev. Tennys can play some great tennis, and push some solid players to their limits, but he has not done so against a top level player such as Rublev in a while. Can Sandgren raise his level to a very high standard to potentially cause the upset here in Miami?
Andrey Rublev will be looking to bounce back after his 23-match winning streak at ATP 500 level ended last week when he lost in the Semi-finals of the Dubai Open against Aslan Karatsev. Rublev entered that match the heavy favourite, but he was not able to keep up with Karatsev who just put everything on the line in that match and eventually reached the glory and eventually won the title the next day. Rublev knew that he would most likely lose in Dubai as he had said in interviews, and this is because he had been playing for 3 weeks in a row and going extremely deep into tournaments. Now that Rublev has had enough time to rest his body, I am sure he will be ready to come out here in Miami and cause some trouble against the likes of Tennys Sandgren.
Andrey Rublev and Tennys Sandgren have met once already, with Andrey Rublev having won that encounter. They met on the clay-courts of Hamburg last year where Rublev won in straight sets 6-3/6-3. Since the Hamburg Open, Rublev has been on top of his game even more and he has just been destroying everyone in his path on the ATP Tour. Sandgren is a strong player, with a lot of experience on the ATP Tour, but he is nowhere near the level required to take down someone of the calibre of Andrey Rublev. I do not see this match being a long one, as Rublev will wear Sandgren down with his long rallies, and get this match done in straight sets.
