TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Grigor Dimitrov (9) meets Cameron Norrie in the Second Round on Friday March 26th, 2021.
Another interesting Second Round match awaits us at the 2021 Miami Open. Ninth seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov will face unseeded Cameron Norrie of Great Britain in what is sure to be a high quality match. Will Dimitrov advance to the Third Round as expected? Or can the gritty British #2 cause the upset?
Grigor Dimitrov is currently ranked #16 on the ATP Tour, and is the number nine seed here at the 2021 Miami Open. A former top five player, he is seemingly back to his best after a difficult past few years where he struggled with injuries and loss of form. The Bulgarian has been in good form to start the 2021 season, reaching the Quarter-Finals at the Australian Open where he unfortunately sustained an injury when leading Aslan Karatsev. He took a few weeks off to recover, and then was impressive last week in Acapulco, reaching yet another Quarter-Final before surprisingly losing to the fast-rising Lorenzo Musetti. A very cool and confident player, he will be very confident of getting the win here over Cameron Norrie and advancing to the Third Round in Miami.
Cameron Norrie can consider himself very lucky to be here in the Second Round at the 2021 Miami Open after being down and out in the Opening Round against Yoshihito Nishioka. Down 5-1 in the third set, he launched an amazing comeback to win the set 7-5, and will be delighted at the result. Currently ranked #56 in the ATP world rankings he is a very solid lefty, with very consistent groundstrokes and is a good mover. He generally struggles against the top players as he lacks the weapons to trouble them, instead relying on his consistency to win matches. The Brit has been having a solid season, highlighted by a Semi-Final showing in Delray Beach and reaching the Quarter-Finals last week in Acapulco. He enters this match as the underdog and will have to play extremely well to have a chance here.
Grigor Dimitrov and Cameron Norrie have never played each other before on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. While this is a trickier Second Round match than the ninth seeded Grigor Dimitrov would have liked, he should still advance relatively comfortably. Cameron Norrie is a good player with no real weaknesses, but does not have the power to seriously trouble the Bulgarian here. His big advantage in the power department will allow him to dictate this match from the baseline and he will advance in two tight sets here. Grigor Dimitrov to win and advance to the Third Round at the 2021 Miami Open.
