TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Felix Auger-Aliassime (11) meets Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the Second Round on Friday March 26th, 2021.
This is sure to be an entertaining match between two in-form players on the ATP Tour. Felix Auger-Aliassime is one of the brightest young stars on the tour, and Pierre-Hugues Herbert is currently in fantastic form. Can the Frenchman continue his giant-killing ways from Marseille with an upset here over the eleventh seeded Canadian? Or will Auger-Aliassime advance to the Third Round as expected here at the 2021 Miami Open?
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked #18 in the ATP world rankings and is the eleventh seed here at the 2021 Miami Open. He has long been considered a future star on the ATP Tour and has been a staple in the top 30 for a while now. He is a dark horse candidate for the title here and certainly is a huge threat on this surface. He enters this event on the back of a strong showing in Acapulco, where he narrowly lost to eventual Finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in a three set thriller in the Quarter-Finals. He has a powerful serve and big game, and loves to sit back and dominate opponents from the baseline. The young Canadian star enters this match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert as the favorite and will be confident of a deep run here in Miami.
Pierre-Hugues Herbert is unseeded here at the 2021 Miami Open, and is currently ranked #74 in the world. Once ranked as high as #33, he has had a difficult past few years with loss of form and injuries, but is seemingly back to his best now. He enters this event with some serious momentum, having reached the Final in Marseille where he narrowly lost to Daniil Medvedev in a match that really could have gone either way. Herbert scored some major upsets in that tournament, defeating the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ugo Humbert along the way. The Frenchman is a very dangerous opponent due to his unique game style, being aggressive from the baseline and attacking the net when possible. While he enters this match against Felix Auger-Aliassime as the underdog, he certainly is capable of winning here.
This is sure to be an exciting match between two flashy players. They have faced each other on two occasions, with the head to head series tied at 1-1. While Pierre-Hugues Herbert has the edge in current form, I think he will fall just short here. Felix Auger-Aliassime is one of the best hard-court players in the world, and he has too much quality for the Frenchman to handle. If this was a lower-level event I would give Herbert more of a chance to win, but not at an ATP-1000 event. The Canadian has matured greatly as a player over the past few seasons and he has a lot more “big game” experience in recent times than his opponent. Expect a close contest with Felix Auger-Aliassime getting the win and advancing to the Third Round here at the 2021 Miami Open.
