TennisSection previews the 2021 Dubai Open as Andrey Rublev (2) meets Marton Fucsovics in the Quarter-finals on Thursday, March 18th, 2021.
Will Andrey Rublev be able to extend his ATP 500 match winning streak to 23-matches without a loss as he looks to win his 5th consecutive ATP 500 title? Will Marton Fucsovics be able to get revenge for his loss to Rublev in the Final of the Rotterdam Open a few weeks ago and knock out the title favourite in Andrey Rublev on Thursday? Both players have been playing some great tennis here at the Dubai Open, but only one will make his way to the Semi-finals. Who will it be?
Andrey Rublev is just in incredible form in Dubai, cruising through both his matches. Most recently, Rublev beat the in form and talented Taylor Fritz in TBU sets, 6-3/6-1. Rublev just seems to find another level of tennis when he plays in ATP 500 tournaments and he will want to make sure he continues to play with this form, and even better, in the later rounds of the tournament if he is to win his 5th ATP 500 title in a row. Rublev has said in recent interviews that if the ranking system had not been frozen over the last year, he would now be the World No.4, rather than the No.8, and I am sure that if he continues to play at this high level, he will even reach that ranking with this messed up ranking system. Will Andrey Rublev be able to cruise through this Quarter-final match?
Marton Fucsovics has shown incredible consistency recently, making his way to the Final of the Rotterdam Open, the Quarter-finals of the Qatar Open, and now the Quarter-finals of the Dubai Open. Fucsovics met Dusan Lajovic in the Third Round, ans was able to beat the No.11 seed in 3 tight sets, 6-1/4-6/6-4. Fucsovics will not be as happy as can be now however, as he once again meets Andrey Rublev for the 3rdweek running. Fucsovics lost to Rublev in the Final of the Rotterdam Open, and the next week he was scheduled to meet Rublev in the Quarter-finals in Qatar. However, Fucsovics pulled out due to injury. Now, Fucsovics is in better shape and ready to go, but will he be able to jump over the mental hurdle of that loss to Rublev a couple weeks ago?
Andrey Rublev and Marton Fucsovics have met 5 times before, with Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 3-2. This match is not going to be a difficult one for Andrey Rublev in my opinion as he has recently already beaten Marton Fucsovics recently, and knows exactly how to win these matches against much lower ranked opponents. Rublev is the man of the moment, and he will come out here determined to make his way to the Semi-finals. Marton will not have the confidence requited to stay on top of a very in form Andrey Rublev. Andrey will get this match done quite quickly.
