We have an exciting all-French first-round clash at the Libema Open. Adrian Mannarino, a former champion here, takes on one of the breakout stars on the ATP Tour. Fils, a Challenger campaigner in the last couple of seasons, has punched well above his weight in 2023, winning his first ATP title in Lyon at the end of May. Fils has since climbed to a career-high 63, and is destined for many more glorious seasons ahead of him on the senior tour. This though, is a big challenge for him, playing a maiden main draw match on grass against a proven, tested, and tried countryman Mannarino. Fils has played fantastically in qualifying for this tournament, beating Lloyd Harris and Herbert, who are no slouch on grass due to their big game styles. While Mannarino brings a complete change of pattern of play, I still expect Fils to come out on top. He’s got an incredibly pacey serve and his ground game looks like it might suit him on faster courts.
