Vienna Open 2022: Andrey Rublev vs. Grigor Dimitrov Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Vienna Open as Andrey Rublev takes on Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16 on Thursday, October 26th, 2022.

Will Andrey Rublev get the win? Will Grigor Dimitrov pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the very in form Andrey Rublev taking on the talented Bulgarian. Who will triumph and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Vienna Open?

Andrey Rublev played an excellent first match, blowing past Diego Schwartzman 6-4 6-1. With his recent form, Rublev made a quarterfinal run at the US Open before winning the first ever edition of the Gijon Open, playing some incredible tennis en route. Rublev won the tournament here in Vienna 2 years back, so he’ll be returning with good memories and ready to take on Grigor Dimitrov. I don’t expect all that much to go wrong for him here, with a relatively straightforward win for Rublev as he looks ahead to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Vienna Open.

Grigor Dimitrov took down Thiago Monteiro, but ultimately, that match will hardly be a good preparation for the thunderstorm which he will have to endure as he takes on Andrey Rublev. Dimitrov has a solid game for these quick courts, but Rublev will simply overpower him from the baseline, and unless Dimitrov serves perfectly, he won’t be able to keep up here at the 2022 Vienna Open.

Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov have met five times before, with Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 3-2. Dimitrov was able to snag a couple wins off of the young Rublev, hardly before his rise to top form in the last couple of years, but as we’ve seen in their last two meetings, particularly this year in Indian Wells, this matchup is a really poor one for Dimitrov, and I expect Rublev to put that on full display as he looks to move on to the last eight of the 2022 Vienna Open.
