Firenze Open 2022: Maxime Cressy vs. J.J. Wolf Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Firenze Open as Maxine Cressy takes on J.J. Wolf in the second round on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022.

Will big-serving Maxime Cressy open his Firenze Open campaign with a win? Or will J.J. Wolf build on his comeback win over Francesco Maestrelli in the first round? An all-American clash that promises to be competitive is in store. Who will prevail?

Maxime Cressy’s career-best season could still have another crowning moment as the 25-year-old plots another giant killingrun to win his second ATP title. Cressy has put together one of the finest runs of his career this year, winning 32 matches and vaulting to as high as No. 31 in the ATP rankings. Such numbers have clearly given him impetus to achieve even more landmarks next season, but he will be determined to close out his 2022 season in the best possible manner. With just one win in his last five matches, Cressy has a lot to do to turn his recent form around against J.J. Wolf at the Firenze Open.

J.J. Wolf, meanwhile, needed to show resilience and patience to book his spot in the second round of the Firenze Open. The American, who has touched the world’s top 80 for the first time, saw off Italian wild card Francesco Maestrelli in three sets. Wolf appeared a beaten man in the first set as Maestrelli unleashed his full repertoire of big serves and big forehands to dominate proceedings. But experience proved a major factor in the match as Wolf began to find his rhythm, levelling the match in the second set and going on to wrestle control of the contest in the third set.

Maxime Cressy and J.J. Wolf have not played each other on the ATP Tour. The pair, however, have contested one match on the Challenger Tour – Cressy winning their second-round match at the Tiburon Challenger in straight sets in 2019. The big-serving Cressy has been one of the standout players in 2022, but has been caught cold in his last three tournaments. And with Wolf playing at a decent level indoors, Cressy’s woes might continue at the Firenze Open.
