TennisSection previews the 2022 Metz Open as Sebastian Korda takes on Hugo Gaston in the Round of 32 on Monday, September 19th, 2022.
Will Sebastian Korda get the win? Will Hugo Gaston pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have power against touch coming to a clash. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Metz Open?
Sebastian Korda has had a very patchy season, with his typical highs and lows that we’ve seen so far in his short career. Hugo Gaston will not be an easy opponent, but I expect him to power through this one, as I really liked what I saw from him back in New York, and I suspect that even if it’s only gradual, his improvement is inevitable. I really like his game on this kind of court, so I expect him to grind it out for a ticket to the last 16 at the 2022 Metz Open.
Hugo Gaston has had his moments, but lately he hasn’t been insanely impressive, and his game really isn’t particularly reliable, with no massive weapons to propel himself to consistent victories. His drop shots are pretty spotty, and on a quick court, they really aren’t going to cut it. We do need to take into account Korda’s movement, but I think Korda’s relentless aggression will carry him to victory at the 2022 Metz Open.
Sebastian Korda and Hugo Gaston have met once before, with Sebastian Korda leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting, while in a more diverse environment in the Next Gen ATP Finals, is actually a fine metric to measure this match. Korda needed 5 sets in the fast four format to take him down on the indoor hard courts, and while that definitely gives some leeway for Gaston to excel in this match, I expect their current runs of form to play a big factor here at the 2022 Metz Open.
