TennisSection previews the 2022 Citi Open as Nick Kyrgios takes on Yoshihito Nishioka in the final on Sunday, August 7th, 2022.

Will Nick Kyrgios claim a 2nd title in Washington? Will Yoshihito Nishioka pull off the shocking upset and claim his first ATP 500 title? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the best players in the world in terms of level right now taking on a surprise finalist. Who will triumph and claim the title at the 2022 Citi Open?
Nick Kyrgios got a solid win over Mikael Ymer, taking him down 7-3 6-3, although the first set presented some challenges, Kyrgios was ultimately too solid in the end for the Swede. As he comes up against Yoshihito Nishioka in the final, he may have to be wary of the potential dangers. Although ultimately I see this as a very good matchup for the Australian as he looks to claim a first title of the season here at the 2022 Citi Open.

Yoshihito Nishioka took down top seed Andrey Rublev in what was likely one of the best matches of his career, but it’s not going to get any easier as he looks ahead to Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios has been playing unbelievable tennis this week, and I doubt it’s going to stop in the final. The Australian’s aggressive playstyle will likely be too much for Nishioka to handle in the end though. If Nishioka wants to win, he’s going to have to hope Nick is off his game as the two square off for the championship of the 2022 Citi Open.
Nick Kyrgios and Yoshihito Nishioka have met 3 times before, with Nick Kyrgios leading the head to head 3-0. Their head to head only reinforces my point, as despite their meetings being rather far apart, coming in 2016, 2018, and 2019, Kyrgios won every time. I only expect a similar trend to continue as not only is Kyrgios in amazing form, but he seems to have Nishioka number as he looks ahead to a 2nd trophy at the 2022 Citi Open.
