Wimbledon 2022: Rafael Nadal vs. Botic Van de Zandschulp Tennis Prediction and Pick

TennisSection previews Wimbledon 2022 as Rafael Nadal takes on Botic Van de Zandschulp in the fourth round on Monday, July 4th, 2022.

Will Botic Van de Zandschulp shock us all as he aims to get himself into the quarter-finals for the first time here at Wimbledon? Will Rafael Nadal continue to raise his level as he showed us in his third round match and get himself in a strong position to go all the way here at Wimbledon? Both players know that they can make it tricky for their opponent with their playing styles. However, only one will make their way to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2022. Who will it be?

Botic Van de Zandschulp has been in good form over the last week at Wimbledon, getting himself into the second week of a grand slam for the second time since he made his breakthrough last year at the US Open. Botic in these grass court conditions is a good player because of his big serve and heavy and fast grounstrokes. However, you also have to put his success here down to the fact that he has not had incredible opposition, beating an out of form and nearly-retired Feliciano Lopez, a still developing his game Emil Ruusuvuori, and a guy who struggles on grass in Richard Gasquet. Botic Van de Zandschulp will know that he can definitely keep things close if he is playing at his best at Wimbledon, but if he isn’t, he will struggle against Rafael Nadal.

Rafael Nadal will be very happy with his performance in the third round, playing his best match of the tournament, beating Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. Nadal was in control of the match for the majority of the time, except for a couple games in the third set. However, as Nadal showed, he was very dissappointed with the heavy and late grunting by Sonego after he hit grounstrokes, although later he apologised to the Italian for the way he acted towards the end. Nadal will take a lot of from that match and he will use this as a confidence boost coming into this match against Botic Van de Zandschulp in the fourth round of Wimbledon.

Rafael Nadal and Botic Van de Zandschulp have met 1 time before, with Rafael Nadal having won their only encounter. They met at the last Grand Slam where Nadal won in straight sets quite easily. Obviously that was a match on clay where Nadal was in complete control and in his comfort zone. However, even if Botic plays his best in this match, I think Nadal has the edge in every shape or form. Botic is a good player, but he is an ATP 250 title winning player if he is ever to play his best, whilst Nadal can win those tournaments with his eyes closed. I expect some tight sets, but we should see Nadal coming out on top of the match in relatively easy fashion to get himself in the quarter-final of Wimbledon.
