Will Stefanos Tsitsipas get the win? Will Holger Rune pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have a player at the very top of the game coming up against a talented youngster with high ambitions. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the 2022 French Open?
Stefanos Tsitsipas has played an interesting few matches, really pushed in his first two rounds, but winning easily in his 3rd round. Holger Rune will be a tough match, and while Tsitsipas is the heavy, heavy favorite, he’ll still have to work hard to conserve his energy and level for the rest of the tournament. Rune is a grinder, but he has many other tricks up his sleeve and he knows how to play aggressively on the clay. I think Tsitsipas is in for another fight here at the 2022 French Open.
Holger Rune took out Hugo Gaston in impressive fashion, 6-3 6-3 6-3 in the night session on Philippe-Chatrier. Stefanos Tsitsipas will be a brutal opponent, being the defending finalist and easily the best clay courter in his half. Rune can grind though, and while I expect Tsitsipas to get better and really move Rune around the court with his forehand, I still think he’ll have some of the lapses we’ve seen from him as the young Holger Rune looks to pull off the upset of the tournament for a place in the quarterfinals at the 2022 French Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Holger Rune will go into this one with nothing to lose, but I don’t think he yet has the physical capacity and consistent aggression to be able to compete with Tsitsipas for a long period of time. Tsitsipas on the other hand has plenty of experience and to go against him here would be very unwise as the 4th seed seeks a 3rd straight quarter final here at the 2022 French Open.
