Karen Khachanov needed 4 sets to get through to the 2nd round coming up against Hugo Dellien. Khachanov hasn’t had the best results lately, but he’s looking better and better every week. Dellien will not be easy, but Khachanov has a big game and is the pretty clear favorite to get through this one, but it may not be so clear cut. I think with the amount of weapons Khachanov possesses, he should be looking good to move on here at the 2022 French Open.
Hugo Dellien took out Dominic Thiem, who, while a very big name in the tennis world, was hardly a competition. Dellien looked good out there today, showing off the clay court tennis that took him into the top 100. Khachanov will be a tricky opponent though, and he certainly isn’t in a good position to win the match. Now, it’s very possible, but it’s difficult to go against the Olympic Silver Medalist knowing that he can always blow you off the court if he’s on. Karen Khachanov and Hugo Dellien have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Khachanov can play on all surfaces, and while his big game is definitely favorable for quicker courts, his heavy groundstrokes and a need for a little more time is good for clay. He can stay in the rallies but also gain the upperhand early, Dellien won’t be easy and I expect a battle with the recent inconsistency of Khachanov, but ultimately he should clinch the match and book himself a spot in the Round of 32 at the 2022 French Open.
