Botic Van de Zandschulp got a good win, dropping one set though en route to the Round of 64 where he will face Fabio Fognini. Van De Zandschulp has a decent game for clay despite not possessing the traditional game for it, he hits massive groundstrokes that he can be incredibly consistent with allowing him to dominate from the baseline and really hit through the heavier hitters who typically dominate. Let’s see if he can continue his good run of form to the Round of 32 at the 2022 French Open.
Fabio Fognini got a great win, coming through in 3 sets to come up against Botic Van de Zandschulp. Since his success at the US Open, Van de Zandschulp has continued his success on the ATP Tour, and now he’s looking to go even deeper here. He obviously will prefer a hard court, and Fognini can take advantage of that and try to play aggressively, but he isn’t too consistent of a player so actually being able to dictate him around the court when he has that big of a game will likely prove too difficult as the Dutchman aims to make the last 32 of the 2022 French Open.
Botic Van de Zandschulp and Fabio Fognini have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. I don’t think it’s a great matchup for Fognini, who will need some more time to set up his aggressive groundstrokes. Nevertheless, due to Fognini’s far superior experience on the surface, I think he can get a fight out of this match but ultimately will fall to Van de Zandschulp who’s looking good here at the 2022 French Open.
