TennisSection previews the 2022 Miami Open as Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 64 on Saturday, March 26th, 2022.
Will Felix Auger-Aliassime get the win? Will Miomir Kecmanovic pull off the upset? This will be a very fascinating one, where we two in form players who can both go deep in the draw. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 32 at the 2022 Miami Open?
Felix Auger-Aliassime has had an incredible season so far, getting really nice results down under, showing an incredibly high level, almost taking down Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals, proving he’s one of the best players in the world on the hard courts. He then went on to win his first title in Rotterdam, swatting aside another top player in Stefanos Tsitsipas. He then had an unfortunate loss in Indian Wells, but he did lose a tight match to a great player in a tournament where many top players fell early. He does not have an easy opponent ahead of him in Miomir Kecmanovic, he could very well lose. I do however expect him to play some great tennis as the conditions should suit him well at the 2022 Miami Open.
Miomir Kecmanovic has been playing great this year with some good results in Australia and in Indian Wells. He does have the potential to pull off the upset, and I do think he’ll push Felix Auger-Aliassime to at least 3 sets. FAA just has too many weapons though, and I don’t see Kecmanovic being able to stay with him and actually be assertive enough from the ground to challenge him enough to take the match. I think he will match up well with the kind of ball that FAA likes to hit, but right from the get-go we’ll see FAA attack, and I think that will propel him deep into the 2022 Miami Open.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Miomir Kecmanovic have met once before, with Miomir Kecmanovic leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came about 3 years ago, and it is rather irrelevant to this match seeing as neither player is as good as they are today, especially FAA, now an established top 10 player. I think Kecmanovic will be able to stay in the rallies and draw some errors which we will often see from Auger-Aliassime, but in the end the relentless aggression of FAA will allow him to take over the match and book a spot in the Round of 32 at the 2022 Miami Open.
