TennisSection previews the 2021 Davis Cup Finals as Cameron Norrie takes on Jan-Lennard Struff in the Quarter-Finals on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021.
Will Jan-Lennard Struff get a good win for Team Germany under his belt as he aims to cause the upset? Will Cameron Norrie continue to shine as he shows us why he is so close to being a top 10 player? Both players have great games which can get them the win, but only one will get a vital point for their team and their quest to progress to the Semi-Finals at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals. Who will it be?
Jan-Lennard Struff went 1-1 in his round robin matches, losing in straight sets to Novak Djokovic and then beating Dennis Novak in straight sets. Jan-Lennard Struff is a great all round player in fast court conditions because his serve and forehand can allow him to hit through opponents. However, where the big swinging German falters is when the ball is returned deep in the court consistently. Struff likes to finish points off quickly, and if the matches are long and the rallies are draining, he can struggle at times. Will he be able to keep things quick and punchy against Cameron Norrie here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals?
Cameron Norrie cruised in his round robin matches here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, beating Arthur Rinderknech and Lehecka in somewhat easy matches. Cameron Norrie has been so consistent this year, showing us that on all surfaces he can compete at a high level. Norrie is a great server, has a strong forehand, backhand, and he is also a good mover. However, the best trait I think he has, other than being a lefty, is the fact that he is able to use the pace of his opponents shots to get the ball back deep and quickly. Norrie will want to use that trait right now as he meets Jan-Lennard Struff.
Cameron Norrie and Jan-Lennard Struff have met 1 time before, with Cameron Norrie leading the head to head 1-0. They met in 2019 in outdoor hard court conditions where Norrie won in 3 sets. In 2019, Struff was in better form than he has been in 2021, whilst Norrie was nowhere near the form he currently is playing at. Norrie is showing top 10 player level in most tournaments this year and he will want to come out here and keep that momentum going. Just because Norrie lost a set to Lehecka in the second round robin match, I might believe that Struff will also get a set. However, at the end of the day, Cameron Norrie will come out on top and get a vital point for Team Great Britain for the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Davis Cup Finals.
