Frances Tiafoe has been playing some good tennis as of late, reaching the final of Vienna and at times playing some brilliant top tier aggressive tennis in other tournaments. He can defeat incredible players at his best, with an incredibly versatile game. He has a big serve, a surprisingly brilliant return due to his incredible timing, really good touch and obviously brilliant play off the ground. While Pedro Martinez is not an easy opponent, with the way that Tiafoe has been playing recently, I expect him to take down Martinez in convincing fashion to progress to the quarterfinals at the 2021 Stockholm Open.
Pedro Martinez got a great win, taking down Ruusuvuori, a good upset. To come up against Frances Tiafoe though, is a much tougher task. If he wants to take him down, he will have to hope Tiafoe is off his game. It’s definitely possible that Tiafoe is off his game, as he is relatively inconsistent, but he showed a solid level on Monday, implying that he doesn’t plan to slow down anytime soon. Let’s see if Tiafoe can keep up his brilliant level of play to take down Martinez and book his place in the last eight here at the 2021 Stockholm Open.
Frances Tiafoe and Pedro Martinez have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Martinez is a decent matchup for Tiafoe, and at the same time a terrible one. His style revolves around him not missing, if he can keep that up, Tiafoe will struggle as he is definitely inconsistent mentally which would hinder him in that regard. At the same time, if Martinez is only focusing on putting the ball in the court, and considering Stockholm plays quick, Tiafoe can easily attack him. Let’s see if they give us an entertaining encounter as Tiafoe aims to continue his campaign at the 2021 Stockholm Open.
