Will Angelique Kerber continue to improve her level as she aims to show us her tennis of old which won her Grand Slams? Will Coco Gauff make an even bigger name for herself by beating a WTA legend here to make her way to the Quarter-finals? This will be a battle of experience vs youth, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Angelique Kerber was able to come back from a set down against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, beating her in 3 sets 2-6/6-0/6-2. Angelique used all of her experience to maintain her composure and get herself back in contention. Kerber has been in great form recently, and her favourite surface has always been grass so she when she is at her best, she can compete against the best here. However, Angelique has not played so much back to back matches in a long time as she has not been consistent. Now that she meets a young opponent in Coco Gauff, she will have to ensure she has the necessary stamina.
Coco Gauff cruised through her Round of 32 match against Kaja Juvan, beating her in straight sets 6-3/6-3. Coco Gauff will be very happy with her performances here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and she will know that she has a very strong chance to go even further if she continues to play at this high level. Coco made her breakthrough here at Wimbledon in 2019 and she is not coming back to show us how much she has progressed. However, she is now going to meet a veteran and former Grand Slam champion in Angelique Kerber so she will have to ensure she brings her A-game.
Coco Gauff and Angelique Kerber have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Angelique Kerber is the much more experienced opponent and she has won many more titles than Coco. However, over the last couple of years, Coco has been the much better player. Angelique can definitely use her experience to get a set under her belt here, but that’s all that I give her in this match as Coco continues to shine and improve herself on the WTA Tour. Coco will win and make her way through to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
