TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Danielle Collins takes on Carla Suarez Navarro in the Round of 128 on Monday, August 30th, 2021.
Will Danielle Collins go through? Will Carla Suarez Navarro pull off the upset? This match will be an interesting one, where we will see if Collins can make a strong showing to kick off her campaign here in New York. Who will move on to the Round of 64 at the 2021 US Open?
Danielle Collins has had an okay year, although she’s had many early exists in tournaments, she’s still been able to win a tournament and win a couple matches in the Toronto Open leading up to the US Open. She is definitely the very heavy favorite, playing someone who is very well out of the top 100 and is only playing her third tournament of the year. Carla Suarez Navarro seems to be on her farewell tour, and Collins is the very heavy favorite to take it, I think even if she has an off day she should be feeling rather confident about moving through to the next round. Even still, it’s a professional tennis match and she should be rather careful, I expect Collins to be able to serve rather well, which should help her create some momentum leading into the later rounds of the 2021 US Open.
Carla Suarez Navarro is only playing her third tournament of the year, the previous two being the French Open and Wimbledon, losing in the first round in both. She is having to face Danielle Collins, a player who has played way more than her this year and hasn’t been playing too badly herself, it will undoubtedly be a very tough match and in my eyes, the only way shes comes out on top is if Collins has a serious off day. Suarez Navarro will have to return very well, which is definitely one of the things she’s been struggling with as of late. It will be a very hard match for her, but let’s see if she has what it takes to be able to challenge Danielle Collins for a spot in the Round of 128 at the 2021 US Open.
Danielle Collins and Carla Suarez Navarro have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Both meetings were in 2018, and funnily enough, both matches had the same score line at 6-2 6-4. Suarez Navarro took the first one early that year, with Collins winning the second, I suspect Collins will also win their third match here in New York rather easily, just taking a look at the current circumstances and obviously their rankings. Collins should be able to get a solid win under her belt and maybe carry some of that momentum to make a deep run in a slam, especially her home grand slam in the US Open of 2021.
