TennisSection previews the 2021 Toronto Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Ugo Humbert in the Round of 32 on Tuesday, August 10th, 2021.
Will Ugo Humbert make it a hattrick of wins against Stefanos Tsitsipas as he aims to continue performing at a very high level on the ATP Tour in 2021? Will Stefanos Tsitsipas finally get revenge for his last 2 losses against Humbert where he should have won? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Toronto Open. Who will it be?
Ugo Humbert cruised through his Round of 64 match against the always tough Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets, beating the Italian 6-3/6-4. Ugo Humbert will be very happy with how well he has been performing recently, reaching the Quarter-Finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he was able to beat his next opponent, Stefanos Tsitsipas along the way. Obviously the win against Tsitsipas in Tokyo was also due to Tsitsipas injuring himself slightly halfway through the match, but I am sure that the lefty Frenchman will come out here knowing he has a strong chance of making it a hattrick of wins against the World No.3 at the 2021 Toronto Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is aiming to get some form finally as he has not been at his best since he lost the French Open Final, losing straight away at Wimbledon, losing in the Round of 16 in Tokyo, and he is now hoping to get revenge for that loss. Stefanos Tsitsipas is definitely motivated to continue improving and find his best form, especially as he has now risen to No.3 in the rankings as Rafael Nadal did not go far in Washington last week. However, Stefanos needs to be at his absolute best as he now meets what seems to be his kryptonite, Ugo Humbert, in his first match here at the 2021 Toronto Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ugo Humbert have met 2 times before, with Ugo Humbert leading the head to head 2-0. They have always played 3 setters and they have been entertaining. I expect the exact same thing here as Ugo Humbert will be very confident in his strong lefty game, targeting Tsitsipas’ one-handed backhand which can be broken under pressure, and Tsitsipas will come out here willing to give it his best to not be embarrassed again if he loses to Humbert 3 times in a row. I believe we will see a 3-setter, with the new World No.3 getting his first win against Humbert as he makes his way to the Round of 16 of the 2021 Toronto Open by using his big serve and forehand to dictate play.
