TennisSection previews the 2021 Atlanta Open as Emil Ruusuvuori meets Brandon Nakashima in the Semi-Finals on Saturday July 31st, 2021.
A very exciting Semi-Final is expected here at the 2021 Atlanta Open as Emil Ruusuvuori and Brandon Nakashima do battle for a spot in the Final. Both men have been outstanding this week and will make significant improvements to their rankings with a win here. The men are very evenly matched, can Nakashima reach his second consecutive Final on the ATP Tour? Or will the higher ranked Ruusuvuori get the win as expected?
Emil Ruusuvuori is currently ranked #78 on the ATP Tour and is unseeded here at the 2021 Atlanta Open. The Finnish star had a strong start to the season but has been disappointing lately, and will be happy to have found some form again by reaching the Semis. After two difficult wins over Mackenzie McDonald and Benoit Paire, he was fantastic in his win over the in-form Cameron Norrie, who was playing the tennis of his life. Ruusuvuori has heavy groundstrokes and a big serve, with a very high first serve percentage throughout this event. If he is able to keep his focus and play to his strengths he will be the slight favorite here against the young American Brandon Nakashima but knows he is in for a battle here.
Brandon Nakashima is also unseeded here at the 2021 Atlanta Open and is ranked #115 in the world rankings. The young American is in the middle of a full breakout, having reached the Final last week in Los Cabos and has continued that momentum into the Atlanta Open. Long tipped for big things, he is finally realizing that potential and has been outstanding so far this week. After surprisingly being pushed to three sets by Trent Byrde in the First Round he recovered to stun top seeded Milos Raonic in the Round of 16 and Jordan Thompson in the Quarters. Nakashima has been serving extremely well so far this week and will be looking to use that weapon as well as his big groundstrokes to hit through his opponent. He tends to make careless errors at times when he tries to over-hit, so he will have to keep that under control here.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour and I am expecting a very close and entertaining match. Both men are very evenly matched and play a similar style and I think this will go right down to the wire. It is quite difficult to pick a winner but I am going to back the young American Brandon Nakashima here. He has been fantastic over the past few weeks and is projected to break into the top 100 for the first time next week. He is breaking out right before our eyes, and I see him grinding out a tough win here over Emil Ruusuvuori to reach his second consecutive ATP Final.
